Metal detecting is a legitimate and enjoyable hobby, but a few basic rules keep it that way — for you and for the sites you search.

Get permission on private land

Always ask the landowner before detecting on private property, even land that looks unused. This is common courtesy everywhere and avoids any dispute over what you find.

Be aware of antiquities protections

Pakistan’s Antiquities Act protects archaeologically significant sites and artefacts of historical value. Recreational detecting for coins and modern-era items in ordinary public or permitted land is a different matter from digging at a protected or historical site — if you’re ever unsure whether a location is protected, it’s best to check with local authorities first rather than assume.

Fill in your holes

A small courtesy that keeps parks, fields and farmland detector-friendly for everyone — including the next hobbyist who wants to search the same spot.
